As discussed on the Dark to Pink Gums page, certain cultural factors and imbalances of pigmentation components form the basis for unusual colorations of ginigival tissues.

Most of our patients report family history of discolored gums and heavy pigmentation on the gums. Heavy smoking,  mouth breathing, genetic characteristics, long term medications, etc can influence the formation and further development of the pigmentations. Our dentists integrate clinical evaluations with the pulp vitality tests, radiographic imaging, soft tissue and hard tissue assessments in order to develop a treatment modality that suits for each patient's individual needs.

At Southern Dental, all of the melanin pigmentation is removed successfully with minimal penetration into the tissue. Bleeding is controlled with the special laser applications. There is no need for stitches.

 Dark gums are clearly evident on the adjacent pre-treatment photos. Laser assisted removal is achieved within 1 to 1.5 hours. The final photos of this case reveal the kind of results that can be achieved by following proven systems and techniques.  We've seen our patients' lives change dramatically after neuromuscular, aesthetic and facelift dentistry. They gain the renewed confidence and a freedom to smile again. The goals of improving the pink to brown ration is achieved.
